March 2, 2023: Life by Design: Leveraging Content for Financial Freedom

March 02, 202310 min read

Newsletter Sent out today:

My previous email focused on my transition from struggling to being fully dedicated to a single company. This journey represents my life story, not in a casual sense, but in a literal sense, as it has led me to where I am today.

Approximately 18 months ago, I embarked on a quest to effect change in our society. Having worked in the tax industry, I witnessed the flaws and inadequacies of our system and realized that a fundamental change was necessary. To me, the tax code represented a business problem, and I saw taxes as a byproduct of a poorly designed business. As a solution, I decided to rebuild the system with a new framework.

Since I began this journey in fall 2021, the idea has been evolving and changing rapidly based on my understanding of what we are trying to achieve. Unfortunately, this evolution has caused confusion among others, and I struggled to get people on the same page as me. However, I realized that I was too early in trying to sell my idea, and without trying, I would not have been able to work out the details based on feedback and questions.

There is no single approach to anything, especially with something new. Starting out with trial and error is key. I believe that one of the reasons why this idea is difficult to explain is that people have never been compensated for the number of years they work with a company. Most businesses fail to consider the real value of time, and our society focuses on a short-term horizon.

To illustrate my point, imagine that you know your best employee will leave in two months for a similar job with a slightly better compensation package. What would you do? The most valuable time is the future. I don't want a teammate for a few months; I want a teammate for several years, if not decades. The longer we work together, the more successful we will be.

To collapse time and make progress quickly, you need to know your destination as far in advance as possible and then take steps to reach that goal. Your team needs to see the long-term vision and be a part of something. I joined ProjecTools full-time because I wanted to be part of a team with a clear purpose that would provide stability for my family. Although I could have met my needs elsewhere, the power of future time convinced me that my value as a team member would exponentially increase with the length of time I have been part of the ecosystem.

To build a business that lasts decades, you need to consider how to collect as much time as possible, monetize that time, and share the wealth with the people who helped you collect it. When I think about business, I try to envision a 100-year timeframe. In 100 years, what will your business need? Customers and employees. The goal is to create a system where both customers and employees want the business to succeed. This is why I believe that ESOPs should be part of every American company.

Where you invest your time matters, so find a system that compensates you with ownership for the most valuable asset you will ever own: time.

Daily Journal Transcript

Good evening. Good evening. Good evening.

I hope you guys are doing great. My day has been fantastic. I got a lot of done for Project tools.

I had a great meeting with one of our clients, which is really exciting, and I'm working on moving everything forward. One of the things that's been heavy on my mind lately is how everything is all interconnected and how one thing affects everything else. And if you don't look at what are the chain reactions of what you're trying to do or what you're working on, you'll miss things.

And so it's like playing chess. You cannot look at your next move. You've got to look, what are the next ten moves? What are the next five moves that will lead to victory, that will lead to the result we're looking for? It's not like chess or life is not something you just let happen.

Because if you just let life happen, you never know where you're going to end up. Life needs to be designed. And that is one of the reasons why I'm so passionate about creating content.

Because I want to live my life by design and I know how I want to live my life. I know the impact I want to make. What I don't know is how am I going to fund making that impact and living my life that way.

And so that's where content comes into play. Is it's going to help fund my life? And it's affiliate marketing, it's influencer marketing. It's using the assets.

Everyone has access to all the software. Nothing I use to build my life is special or unique or is just me. Except just me.

Right? This is the only thing. The money maker right here, right? I am the only unique thing I have. So how do you leverage the only unique thing you have? Well, you need to get on a stand, you need a microphone, and you need to start sharing.

So that's what I'm doing. And that's why I create all this content. Why I post daily is because my goal is to create SEO.

And as I'm creating SEO, as I'm going out there and building a following, I always drive people back to justindcstephens.com my personal website, which is a bridge to wherever I'm working right now. I am full time with Project Tools and loving it.

So when you go to justinddcstephens.com you'll see in the top left my name just like it's right there, right? You can see my name right there. So you go in, you see what's going on, and then you make decisions based on it.

So this is one of the reasons I'm so passionate about creating content, is because I know if I am consistent long enough, long enough, this comes back to time. It's not going to happen overnight. This is a year, two years, maybe three years that I'll need to be consistent long enough to completely replace my personal income through marketing.

Other people's products or services through affiliate marketing. Once that happens, it alleviates the financial pressure on me and on my family. And I can focus on the life I want to live because I've automated my finances.

So that's something I want to encourage everybody to think about. How can I automate my finances? Once your finances are automated, the rest of life becomes a lot more enjoyable because you can afford it. You can go out and do things and have fun, but it only comes because you have a plan.

So I want to encourage everybody out there, design your life around a plan, design your life around what you want to do with your time. And one thing I love about streamers, I'm getting into streaming on Twitch. This is streaming on Twitch right now, right? So I'm getting into streaming on Twitch.

As I'm doing that, I'm seeing people all over who are doing what they want to do and making money out of it. That's awesome. That's how life should be.

That is good. So I want to encourage everyone out there, keep going, keep pushing, and as you're doing it, be thinking about, where am I going to end up? Because no matter what, you end up somewhere, you got to have a plan for it. You've got to look at where do I want to end up? That's critical.

So I hope that helps and I hope you take some time to focus on where you want to go. Actually, let me show you my 40 year vision. So if you go to justindcstephens.com

my website, you can see let me share this screen. There we be. So if you go to my website, let me zoom out a little bit and then go the main page is my affiliate link page.

So all these links are tools and people that I know, like and trust that I use, that I think other people should use as well. Then you can see here, you can easily get to project tools, which is what I'm starting to create all my content around as project tools and life. You can see I've got it set up.

So my Twitch stream, when I go live on Twitch, I'm prerecording this, but when I go live on Twitch, it is streamed onto every page of my website. But I wanted to show you my like strategy. So this template, and you can download this template if you want, go up here and go to the free tax strategy course is where this template is.

But this template is designed to be my lighthouse that I look at and make decisions based on my life. Does this decision get me closer or further away from what I want to be doing? That's what this I call a life strategy plan is. And you'll see it's broken down into segments, spiritual, family, net worth, marriage, a career.

I actually call it impact, because impact is more important than a career to me self care, charity and growth. So these are the eight components that make up Justin. And you can see I start at 40 years, and then I've got a five year vision.

Then I've got annual goals all the way down to quarterly commitments. And I'm constantly working my plan and making adjustments, because at the end of the day, if I want to be successful, I've got to move, I've got to have a plan, and I've got to execute on it. So this is my plan.

I, unlike most people, am extremely transparent, which is why I have all of this on my personal website, because I want people to get to know the person behind the business, the person behind the career, the person behind the family. We're all different roles. We all fill different roles throughout life, but that doesn't make us that person.

You are whoever you decide to be. And this is who I've decided to be. So I just wanted to encourage you.

Go out, decide who you want to be, and be it. You can do it, and it's awesome when you do. So, with that said, this was the journal entry for March 2, 2023.

And time continues to fly. So if you are not documenting and tracking and looking at your future, you're missing the boat. If you've enjoyed this content, if this has been helpful, please, like subscribe share this message with others, because together is how we make this work.

With that said, have a great evening. We'll talk to you all soon.
